Parents who don’t see progress, don’t keep their child enrolled

Here’s one of the biggest misconceptions about preschool dance programs: Parents are only looking for fun.

Don’t get me wrong. Fun does matter. Fun is exactly why we teach using stories and themes. It’s one reason why we use props in preschool dance classes. And of course, parents do want to see their child is having fun. But that’s only half of it. There’s something else that matters a lot to parents.

‍‍Parents want to see visible progress when it comes to their child in dance.

And that goes for all levels, including preschool dance. When parents can’t clearly see what their child is learning, they assume it’s all simply fun and games.

Here are a few ways you can show parents their child is learning in their preschool dance class:

  • Sticker charts can help track new skills.

  • Certificates celebrate completion of this month's theme or story.

  • Parent observations give your teachers the chance to tell parents what their children have been learning.

  • A quick monthly or quarterly email to parents can let them know what their child is learning in preschool dance.

These things may seem small, but they can shift how your preschool dance parents perceive your program and your studio. Your “cute classes” become a place where their child is learning and growing.

Inside the Little Dancer Program, we provide ready-to-use student certificates and sticker charts with our monthly themed lesson plans. Our annual summer implementation training helps you to implement things like parent observations and emails in a way that’s simple and better communicates with parents.

Soon, I’ll be sharing why themed preschool dance classes aren’t just fun. They can actually help your studio grow in enrollment.

Here's to the amazing work you do!
