How one studio owner uses preschool dance to build a strong foundation

I want to share studio owner Namoi Roberts’ story with you today.

Naomi owns NA Dance Company in New South Wales, Australia. Like many studio owners, she knew that if she wanted strong dancers in her intermediate and advanced levels, she needed a solid foundation at the very beginning.

For her, that foundation starts with preschool dance.

Naomi uses the Little Dancer Program in her youngest classes to introduce students to dance in a way that is engaging, developmentally appropriate, and structured—before they move into more formal Royal Academy of Dance syllabus work later on.

Naomi shared her experiences with us: “I have loved implementing this program within my studio. Our dancers enjoy learning dance through directed play as well as building the foundational technique that will support their progressive learning in classical ballet.”

A strong dance program for the early years has done two things for Naomi's studio. First, it’s given her a larger pool of little dancers to move up through her studio. Second, it’s created a clear pathway from a student’s first class to advanced training.

Preschool dance is about so much more than just cute classes. You need a strong preschool dance program to have a strong studio. Students who grow in confidence, learn classroom etiquette, and master foundational skills are prepared for the next level of training in your studio. And that means higher retention rates when moving into your core classes.

Naomi also appreciated how flexible the program has been when implementing it: “It allows the freedom to build continuity as well as being easily adaptable.”

Have a lovely week ahead!
